We recently have been trying out Image Lines Fl Studio in our studio. We reviewed the latest version of the Fruity Loops replacement and checked its functionality for the modern producer/beat makers. The main task while mastering the album was to maintain the feeling and to create an even more vintage sound. At the same time certain frequencies needed to be cleaned in order to make space for other instruments. The project wasn’t supposed to sound too clean but also it shouldn’t sound muddy. We used stereo and stem mastering online to process the project.
We had the chance to review Samplitude Pro X3 in our studio. We tested the DAW for its compatibility & workflow in the recording studio and the online mixing studio. The latest version of the software offers new features such as the possibility to create DDP files and Red Book CDR’s.
As a starting point you could use a ratio between 4 and 10 depending on how much the bass should be ducked/ how much is actually wanted. The higher the ratio the more the bass will be ducked. Release between 10-50ms. Threshold about -5db depending too on how much compression is wanted. All depends on your own taste and the final release formats. CD Mastering requires less compression then other formats on some projects to maintain a high quality.
